Help Me, Help You

People who know me are well aware of the fact I'm not a Knicks fan. I sat through the Dave Checketts era, the Scott Layden era, and made it through most of the Isiah era until I cracked.

What actually cracked me wasn't even basketball related, it was when the owners of the Knicks secretly put forth ads conjuring up firefighters carrying dead babies from ground zero, and little black kids doing poorly in school, in a successful effort to submarine the Jet's Manhattan stadium. I figured if their owner (James Dolan) was so evil that he transcended different sports, it was time to go.

I'm bringing this up because if you are in fact a Knicks fan, you have yet another major gripe, and I'm hoping to help give you a little push off the edge. Last night, Milwaukee Bucks rookie point guard Brandon Jennings dropped 55 pts on the Golden State Warriors. Why does this matter to NY? Two reasons;

(Charles Barkely Voice) "Numba one", the Knicks passed on Brandon Jennings on draft night, even though they have one of the worst point guard situations in the league (sorry friends and immediate family members of Chris Duhon, its true). Knicks GM Donnie Walsh and Coach Mike D'Antoni felt it would be in the better interests of the team to draft power forward (and future journeyman)Jordan Hill, who so far has averaged 5 points, 1.8 rebounds and .2 asts a game.

(Charles Barkely Voice) "Numba two", The night before Jennings epic eruption (pause), the Warriors defeated the Knicks, dropping them to their worst start in the history of the franchise. Could there be any clearer a contrast of what could have been? Well atleast Jordan Hill had his best game against the Warriors, dropping 10 pts on them.

As if this whole 2009 draft debacle isn't rough enough on Knicks fans, 2010 is looking even more excruciating, because the Knicks (unprotected) first round pick is heading to Phoenix as part of the (wait for it).....2004 STEPHON MARBURY DEAL! This isn't even the first time the Knicks have done this, for EDDY CURRY the Knicks surrendered the number 2 overall pick in the 2006 draft and the 9th pick in the 2007, which Chicago gleefully used on Brooklyn's own Joakim Noah, who by the way, leads the league in rebounding this year.

Donnie Walsh and Mike D'antoni cant be blamed for the lost draft picks(past and future), but the Knicks owner can, he hung on to Isiah for a mind numbing 5 years. This is why you shouldn't stand for this anymore Knicks fans, this ineptitude without remorse or recourse (sorry Clyde Frazier typed that last part), a sadistic owner holds your hopes and dreams hostage. Your one and only celeb fan recused himself from any serious basketball conversation ever with his continual fawning over Isiah Thomas even after the Knicks had gone to hell and informed Knicks fans were holding protests.

Seriously Knicks fans, like a woman in a long term abusive relationship, you need to muster the courage to leave, the Knicks ownership isn't changing. Knicks fans protested outside the NBA draft at Madison Square Garden in 2006 because they thought the organization was at its nadir, now 3 years later the Knicks just made a colossal misfire in the Hill over Jennings pick, they have the worst record in the organizations history (stretching back to 1946) and the high draft pick this putrid record is sure to bring, is already gone. At some point Knicks fans, you need to look in the mirror and quit the Knicks, or go outside MSG and light yourself on fire like the monk on the Rage Against The Machine album cover. Those are your 2 choices, choose wisely.

Bonus: Spike Lee discreditting himself as a Knicks fan and as a heterosexual
